Your function

Teaching assignment

You are involved in teaching in the programs of Architecture and Interior Architecture, as well as in the Doctoral School of Behavioral Sciences & Humanities. You contribute to research seminars in the master's programs of architecture, interior architecture, and the international master Adaptive Reuse. You also participate in teaching the course component "Research training" within the exchange program of the first year of the master's program in architecture. Furthermore, you are actively involved in supervising master's theses.

Within the framework of the Doctoral School, you conduct workshops, guest lectures, and PhD seminars focusing on creative-critical writing and alternative forms of knowledge acquisition and communication.

As part of a team, you also contribute to strengthening the relationship between research and (studio) education, particularly within the interior architecture program. Together with your colleagues, you explore possible synergies with the Fine Arts program of PXL-MAD, both in the master's and doctoral programs.

More generally, you contribute to the development and implementation of the educational concept and curriculum, the realization of the educational profile, and the achievement of the specific objectives of the programs, the faculty, and the university.

Research assignment

Your research focuses on creative-critical research methods, both textual and visual, within the fields of cultural and design studies. In addition to generating your own research output, you actively contribute to acquiring external research funding at national and European levels. You also emphasize the application and supervision of PhD projects at the intersection of (interior) architecture and the arts. You actively participate in the development of peer-reviewed publication opportunities for unconventional forms of artistic and design research, taking on roles such as editor for journal or book publications, and other communication platforms for the dissemination of artistic and design-oriented output. You establish an international research network with other institutions that also emphasize this hybrid form of cultural and artistic research.

Internal and external community service
In addition to these academic tasks, you are willing to take on managerial, coordinating and administrative tasks. Furthermore, you contribute to strengthening the civic impact of the faculty through public lectures, exhibitions, and other cultural and societal contributions.

Your team

This vacancy fits within the development of the academic research of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts within Hasselt University. You will become a member of the Architecture and Arts department and the ArcK research group. You will join the research line FRAME: Passage, in collaboration with other research groups of ArcK and PXL-MAD.

Passage is a transdisciplinary, artistic research line that traverses the Architecture and Arts Faculty and borrows from both fields in order to explore alternative ways of living, dwelling, and knowing. Passage investigates how contemporary and historical artistic practices in various media can be critically used in the analysis, design, and communication of (interior) architecture. Additionally, it explores how spatial, scenographic, and architectural strategies can be applied in artistic research.

We particularly focus on creative-critical writing open to different media and modes; not only as an end in itself, but as a valuable research method in cultural studies and artistic research.
