By a Baekeland mandate, the IWT (Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology) gives researchers the opportunity to execute a PhD in close collaboration with the business community by ensuring financial support. The projects should be high quality research that in case of success adds value to the company. A Flemish company can in collaboration with a university request funding to the IWT. More information: UHasselt - Baekeland mandaat (Dutch) or IWT - Baekeland mandate (English).
A second possibility is an Innovation mandate. Through this mandate, the IWT encourages experienced researchers to focus on the valorization of scientific research results. There can be a collaboration with an existing company or the foundation of a spin-off company. More information: UHasselt - Innovatie mandaat (Dutch) or IWT - Innovation mandate (English).
