ERC starting grant of EUR 2 million for IMO-IMOMEC researcher Sep 14, 2016
Bart Vermang (researcher in the field of renewable energy in imo-imomec) has won a European research grant of two million euros. The prestigious ERC Starting Grant for young scientists is awarded by the European Research Council - after a rigorous selection process.
With his research, Bart Vermang (imo-imomec) aims to improve CIGS (e) cells (a type of thin-film solar cells) by applying advanced techniques that are also used for silicon solar cells. That should lead to more sustainable cells with higher efficiency between 23 and 26%. "This type of cells is particularly suitable to be integrated in building materials and construction elements. A market that is very important because the European legislation foresees that new buildings should be energy neutral in the future. "
The ERC research grants are one of the most prestigious fellowships for European scientists.
