Nano Structure physics

The Nanostructure Physics (NSP) group within the Institute for Materials Research is focusing its research on fundamental topics in nanometer-scale science and technology with a strong emphasis towards new materials (mainly metal particles and organic/inorganic hybrid structures) and their applications. The main goal of our work is the basic understanding of all physical and chemical properties related to the reduced dimensions of nanostructured materials like the electronic & atomic (molecular) structure, charge transport, optical, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties, chemical reactivity etc.
The NSP group is headed by prof. dr. H.-G. Boyen. The research team consists of master students, PhD students and 1 postdoc researcher who all are involved in research collaborations with various groups active in the fields of nanoparticles, clusters, thin films, hybrid materials, electrochemistry, simulation, and surface analysis.
