With the establishment of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), the European Commission wanted to map the need for support to the (pan) European research infrastructure and effectuate funding for it. Within ESFRI, a roadmap was drafted which mapped the needs for the development of new or the upgrading of existing large scale research infrastructure at the European level for the next 10 to 20 years.
Within Flanders the Hercules foundation coordinates the Flemish participation in requests and needs with regards to this European research infrastructure.
In 2014, the Hercules Foundation, in cooperation with the Research Coordination Office, organised an info session about the ESFRI and the related calls within Horizon 2020. Explanations were given on the following topics:
