What can we do for you?
Of course you can participate in the existing range of (coaching) facilities of Hasselt University.
In addition, you maybe can also make use of:
- adapted (individual) study coaching (e.g. in terms of study planning)
- adapted (individual) study career coaching, for example the mapping of an adapted study pathway, in the interest of both your studies as well as your personal situation / special circumstances (e.g. spreading out the study programme over multiple years)
- potential facilities related to education and the evaluations (depending on your needs)
Who is eligible?
Students with a family within which the concerned student fulfils a caring role vis-a-vis another member of the family (e.g. students with children, caregivers, ...) are in any case eligible for extra support and facilities during their education and the examinations.
Do you have other 'special circumstances' that influence your studies?
Contact the study coach. The study coach assesses per individual file, potentially in consultation with other internal or external experts, whether or not you are eligible.
How can you apply?
It is up to you to take the first step: make yourself known, gather the required documents / certificates and submit your file with the study coach of your programme.
You can do this at any moment during the academic year (also before the academic year has started) and during your entire study career.
Note! An application for extra facilities during an exam has to be completed no later than 15 business days prior to the relevant examination period. Contact the study coach on time.
Below you will find a step-by-step guide on how to get extra support and facilities:
STEP 1: APPLICATION
In your electronic student file, under the buttons 'studycoaching -forms' you can find an application form. You fill out this, sign it and deliver it to the study coach. You can do this directly, via the reception or the student desk at Diepenbeek Campus (Building D) or at Hasselt Campus (Former Prison).
STEP 2: CERTIFICATION
Gather the necessary documents /certificates (see tab 'Certificates' for more information).
The study coach will check to see if the documentation you have provided meets the criteria and can forward your file to internal or external experts for advice.
Tip: A good start wins a race. We advise you to submit the necessary documents / certificates together with your application form (see step 1), or to take them to your meeting (see step 3).
STEP 3: MEETING
The study coach will invite you for a meeting via e-mail.
During this meeting an evaluation is made of which difficulties you experience or expect in combining your personal situation / special circumstances with your education, as well as what type of coaching and facilities can help you in this.
STEP 4: GRANTING FACILITIES
The file and the proposition for facilities are submitted to the Examination Board of the relevant programme. The Examination Board determines whether the requested facilities are possible within the programme (taking into account the learning outcomes, subject matter related or practical feasibility, ...) and decides on whether or not to grant these facilities.
The study coach informs you via e-mail regarding the granted facilities and adds these to your electronic student file.
Copies of the documents and certificates, required for the granting of the statute, are retained by the study coach. The data is treated with the necessary respect for the privacy of the student.
As a student with special circumstances, you need to renew your application annually. The study coach reminds you of this via e-mail at the beginning of every academic year.
STEP 5: PRACTICAL ORGANISATION
The study career coach follows up on the practical organisation of the facilities (e.g. absence during a compulsory contact moment, ...) In order to practically organise certain facilities (e.g. moving an examination, ...) you need to contact the study career coach (on time).
Documents / certificates
A certificate needs to be submitted which is recent, corresponds to the student's current situation and which proves the nature of the 'special circumstances'. The nature of the certificate is dependent on the special circumstances. Your study coach can provide you with further information.
