Simpact: Informing HIV prevention and treatment decisions through simulation
Statisticians of Hasselt University, jointly with colleagues from Ghent, the United States, and South Africa, developed a new mathematical model – termed SIMPACT – that can play a vital role in the fight against HIV, the virus causing AIDS. “The individually-based models of the past quarter of a century could study the impact of merely a few preventive measures. With SIMPACT several type of simulation can be run and various prevention related questions can be answered,” says prof. dr. Niel Hens of CenStat. “This supports the search for more effective, cheaper measures to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS.”
