Fulbright Grants

Research

What?

In 1948, the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America, Belgium, and Luxembourg was established with the goal of increasing mutual understanding through academic exchange between citizens of Belgium and Luxembourg and citizens of the United States. Over the past seven decades, the Fulbright Commission in Brussels has facilitated the academic exchange of thousands of students, researchers, teaching assistants, and professors between the United States of America and Belgium.

Today, seventy years after the creation of the program, the Fulbright Commission provides grants for graduate study, pre- and post-doctoral research, foreign language teaching, and university lecturing in the United States.

Graduate Studies and (pre)doctoral research (before or as part of ongoing PhD): As part of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, Fulbright awards scholarships to Belgian and Luxembourgish citizens to study or conduct research in any academic field at an accredited U.S. institution for a period between four months and one academic year (9 months).

Post-doctoral research or lecturing: As part of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, Fulbright awards scholarships to Belgian and Luxembourgish citizens to conduct research and/or lecture in any academic field at an accredited U.S. institution for a period between three months and one academic year (9 months). Applicants must present a letter of affiliation from an accredited university or non-profit research institution.

Fulbright Schuman program: doctoral research (before or as part of ongoing PhD) or research-focused graduate program, for research in the United States with a focus on EU affairs/policy, or the US-EU transatlantic agenda.
