Working with biological material entails specific risks to the operator and humans, animals, plants and the environment at large. In addition to consciously dealing with pathogens in a research or medical context, one often comes into contact with biological material for which the risks are less clear (eg blood samples) or less known (eg genetically modified organisms).
In this presentation we will briefly review the essential steps of recognizing biological hazards, performing a risk assessment and selecting appropriate protective measures. Examples will be used to illustrate the consequence for the daily activities of the participants.

This course will be taught by Patrick Rudelsheim, PhD, General Partner of Perseus BVBA, a service company focused on biosafety and related regulatory requirements, which he founded in 2003.
