For the first BusinessLunch of this year, we have invited Mitchell Silva, CEO and co-founder of Esperity. He will give a talk about his career and the choices he made in order to become CEO of Esperity. After his talk, a sandwich lunch is provided. Please find below the biography of Mitchell Silva and the practical details.


Mitchell obtained his MSc and PhD in Bioengineering Biosystems Technology from the University of Leuven, Belgium. During his career as a research engineer, he coordinated international projects for institutions such as the European Space Agency. He specialized in technology and algorithm development for health and condition monitoring of living organisms. He has made significant contributions to product development and valorization. He has several publications under his name, and he is the co-inventor of several patents.

After his academic career, he was active at a startup company affiliated with the University of Leuven, focusing on health monitoring using sensor data. After cofounding Esperity, he won the first prize at the Microsoft Innovation Center Boostcamp Brussels in March 2012. He also won the second prize at the BizSpark Eurpean Summit 2012 in London. In 2013 Esperity was nominated as the Best Startup of 2013, and won the Caring Entrepreneurship Fund’s Best Healthcare Related Startup prize.

In 2014 Esperity received the Best Prototype Award from the Microsoft Innovation Center Brussels. Mitchell is also the founder of Health2.0 Belgium Chapter, a nonprofit organization, which brings health tech startups together.
