Welcome to the doctoral schools' newsletter which includes an overview of all upcoming activities for PhD students and postdocs.

More details on, and registration links for, upcoming activities are available on the websites of the doctoral schools. When you enrol for a doctoral school activity, please make sure to be present. You are allowed to cancel your enrolment up to 1 week before the activity by sending an e-mail to doctoralschools@uhasselt.be. In case of no-show or cancellation later than 1 week before the activity, a fee of 250 euros can be charged. Details

17. Modules on education

Since last year, most modules on education are organized in a demand-driven way. This means that instructors/professors can 'order' a tailor-made workshop on a specific topic for a specific group of interested people. However, there also is a limited open course offer. These open courses are announced by e-mail, as well as in this newsletter.

CALL 

Call for international & intersectoral mobility

Due to financial support of the Flemish Government, the doctoral schools of Hasselt University are able to award travel grants to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for participation in an international summer school or a short research stay abroad. Also, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers can be awarded intersectoral mobility grants for intersectoral summer schools or research projects conducted at and in collaboration with non-academic institutions (companies, hospitals, …).

The second call for academic year 2017-2018 has been launched. Deadline of submission is 1/3/2018 and the activity (summer school or research stay) has to take place between 1/4/2018 and 30/9/2018. You will receive the result of your application by 20/3/2018.

CALL 

Rotary campaign 'Hope in head'

The Rotary district 1620, 1630, 2170 have taken the initiative of raising funds to support research projects in the field of brain research through a campaign called 'Hope in head'. In 2018, 1 grant of €10,000 and 9 grants of €6,000 will be awarded. Research projects should be focused on neurodegenerative diseases. Both fundamental and clinical research projects are welcome and should lead to a better understanding of the pathophysiology or to a better treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Applicants should be doctoral students and the grant will be a contribution to the working money needed for the completion of their doctoral thesis. Deadline for application is February 5, 2018 by using this application form.
