IN THE PICTURE

Suggestion box

The doctoral school programme is meant to meet PhD students’ and postdocs’ needs and wishes. The requirements are aimed to be justified but doable, and the procedures to be as efficient as possible. The coordination team truly appreciates your input. Through this link, you can (anonymously) share ideas or feedback with respect to the doctoral schools (programme, requirements, …). The posts are removed every three months, at which point they are addressed on this intranet page.

CALLS

The Flemish government subsidizes the five Flemish universities to provide support and guidance of junior researchers. Specifically, the universities are asked to organize activities with respect to (1) training (discipline-specific, interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary), (2) career development, and (3) strengthening the international orientation of junior researchers. 35% of the budget needs to be spent in collaboration with at least two other Flemish universities.

1. Call for funding applications for activities aimed at junior researchers

In order to allow input from the various faculties, a call for funding applications for activities aimed at junior researchers is distributed yearly at Hasselt University. PhD students and postdocs may also apply for funding, on the condition that the application is supported by a professor.

Funding may be requested for the organisation of workshops/courses, symposiums, seminars, etc. Junior researchers need to be the target audience, with active participation. Both local initiatives and initiatives in collaboration with other universities are eligible, but initiatives in collaboration with at least two other Flemish universities are relatively more likely to be funded.

Details of this call are available in English and in Dutch. The submission deadline is October 28, 2019.

2. Call for international & intersectoral mobility

Thanks to the financial support of the Flemish Government, the doctoral schools of Hasselt University are able to award travel grants to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for participation in an international summer school or a short research stay abroad. Also, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers can be awarded intersectoral mobility grants for intersectoral summer schools or research projects conducted at and in collaboration with non-academic institutions (companies, hospitals, …).

Junior researchers can apply for funding twice a year. The current call concerns activities in the period January - June 2020. The submission deadline is December 2, 2019. You will receive the result of your application by December 16, 2019.
