Please note

The doctoral schools Behavioral Sciences & Humanities, Health & Life Sciences and Sciences & Technology are well aware of the negative impact doctoral students may experience in consequence of the corona measures, and that certain activities, in fulfilment of the minimal requirements of the doctoral schools, cannot take place at present. The directors of the doctoral schools invite doctoral students in the end phase of their PhD to report any concerns they might have on this topic to the coordinators of the doctoral schools (Ilse Van Damme (DS BSH) and Stefanie Kerkhofs (DS HLS and DS ST), who will attend to this report. Should doctoral students only just fail to meet the minimal requirements of their doctoral school in consequence of the COVID-19 measures, the doctoral school board or faculty management team will employ the necessary flexibility in the evaluation of the file of the doctoral student concerned.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at all times, on

1. Survey on Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs)

The UHasselt RDM-team launched a survey on Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs). The purpose of this survey is to map the use of ELNs among UHasselt researchers. What are the most commonly used ELNs? Which ELN functionalities do researchers find most important? And which services and support do they expect from UHasselt? The final goal is to pre-select a number of ELNs that will then be tested by a working group. This will lead to a specific selection that UHasselt will make available/finance and for which adequate training and support will be provided. Completing the questionnaire takes about 10 minutes. Your answers will be kept strictly confidential. Researchers who also wish to participate in the ELN testing working group can leave their email address at the end of the survey.

2. Grammarly premium version available for Hasselt University users

Hasselt University Library is pleased to offer UHasselt students, faculty, and staff free access to the premium version of Grammarly. Grammarly is an automated online writing support tool that does far more than just highlight grammar and spelling errors. The program offers contextual advice and suggestions for improving sentence structure, word choice, and style for all kinds of documents. It can even help prevent plagiarism by checking for unoriginal text against a database of 16 billion web pages and ProQuest’s databases. If you want to sign up, send an email to using your UHasselt email address and ask for a Grammarly Premium account. Next, you will receive an automatically generated invitation email to create a Grammarly premium account (or to upgrade your freely available Grammarly account).
