OBFS annual meeting
Feb 19, 2019

We are delighted to invite you to the 54th annual meeting of the Organization of Biological Field Stations (OBFS) to be held September 9-13, 2019. It is a particular honor for The Field Research Centre of Hasselt University to host these meetings as they represent the first OBFS meetings to be held outside of the Western Hemisphere. The meetings will be held at the border of the 5,700 ha “Hoge Kempen National Park” adjacent to the Field Research Centre and Home Fabiola.

Scientists, scholars, and students around the world work at and depend upon biological field stations and marine laboratories to pursue a deeper understanding of natural processes at every scale, from the molecular to the global, from milliseconds to eons.

This 55th annual meeting humbly started in Minnesota in 1966 at the University of Minnesota’s Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve. The annual meetings are typically multidisciplinary, are held at member field stations, and attended by field station managers, directors, operational staff, educators, and scientists from all across the world. The meetings reflect an annual event whose hallmark is a community of dedicated professionals and a deep sense camaraderie.

Travel to Hasselt is easy and convenient.  It is possible to access the site by public transportation (train, bus, etc.) from Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, and Paris, whichever airport is most convenient and cost effective. For more information, go to the website www.uhasselt.be/obfs
