Geoffrey Lipman is Director of Greenearth.travel, a global think tank network, promoting Green Growth and Travelism and specializing in strategy, innovation and funding. He is President of ICTP (International Coalition of Tourism Partners) & Associate of Cosmos China. Geoffrey is Adjunct Professor at Victoria University Australia, Visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University UK, Senior Tourism Research Fellow at George Washington University USA and Guest Professor at Hasselt University BE. He is a Member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council in Aviation, Travel and Tourism. Geoffrey joined the International Air Transport Association in the 1960s and rose to become its Executive Director before his appointment as the first President of the World Travel & Tourism Council from 1990 to 1999. Between 2006 and 2010, he served as Assistant Secretary General and spokesperson of UNWTO, the World Tourism Organisation, and prior to that acted as Advisor to the Secretary General.
     
Elke Hermans is currently responsible for the Bachelor and Master programme in Transportation Sciences and for the development of a Tourism research track within the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) of Hasselt University. In 2004, Elke graduated from Hasselt University as Commercial Engineer. Until 2009 she worked as a doctoral researcher at IMOB. Her research is situated in the area of road safety. She attained her PhD on the methodological combination of indicators in an index in 2009. Since then, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher and later as professor at IMOB. Until December 2011 she co-ordinated the Policy Research Centre for Mobility and Public Works, track Traffic Safety. Moreover, she was involved in the European road safety project, DaCoTA. Elke is author of various journal articles (in Accident Analysis and Prevention, Transportation Research Record, Knowledge-Based Systems, etc) and conference proceedings (such as Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board, European Transport Conference, International Road Traffic and Accident Database Conference, International Conference on Sensitivity Analysis of Model Output, etc).
     
Geert Wets founded the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) at Hasselt University in 2003. IMOB currently has about 55 staff members and has a yearly turnover of 2 Mio Eur of external research funding. It has become the largest transportation research institute in Belgium within well-defined areas of expertise (transportation modelling and traffic safety). IMOB is headed by Geert Wets. Geert received a degree as commercial engineer in business informatics from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1991 and a PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands) in 1998. His current research entails transportation modelling, traffic safety modelling and data mining. He has published his research in several international journals such as Accident Analysis and Prevention, Environment and Planning, Geographical Analysis, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, Transportation Research Record and Information Systems.
     
Ignace Shops, Director of Regional Landschap Kempen en Maasland (RLKM) vzw, is a member of Europarc Federation, a non-governmental organization working on biodiversity, the natural and cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. Ignace is a landscaping expert and herpetologist, and honorary doctor of Hasselt University, Belgium. He is a recipient of the Goldman Environmental Prize 2008, an Ashoka Fellow (world leading organization on social entrepreneurship), and IUCN International Ambassador Biodiversity 2010. Ignace is also the Vice President of Natuurpunt Flanders, Member of the International Advisory Board Countdown 2010, Associate Member of Club of Rome, and Member of the Natuurpunt Limburg Board. He has authored and co-authored several books and articles on herpetology, nature conservation and landscaping.
