Nanoscale sensing with colour centres in diamond and 2D hexagonal boron nitride

Synopsis:

Color centres in solid-state systems have become one of the most prominent candidates for high-resolution sensing at the nanoscale. In this talk, I will present some of the methods we designed to harness and modify the optical properties of colour centres in diamond as well as in 2D hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to push the resolution and sensitivity limits of our measurements.
For instance, we use low-energy (Anti-Stokes) excitation of diamond colorcentres to perform nanoscale thermometry with sensitivities beyond those achievable by any alternative, homologous method. We propose multi-laser schemes exploiting the photophysics of certain quantum emitters in hBN for super resolution imaging and nanoscopy. We use a scheme called field-assisted photo-doping to tune both, dynamically and permanently, the emission energy of hBN colour centres.
