Steven Nagels invites you to the public defense of his doctoral thesis entitled: "Electronic devices which stretch like rubber bands: a holistic approach to materials and fabrication methods for stretchable electronics".

As society increasingly relies on computing services, interactive devices are leaving their rigid cases behind and start to integrate more deeply into our everyday lives. Circuits and sensors that can stretch and bend can now be indiscernibly integrated on for instance textiles or the human skin. More importantly, these stretchable electronics exhibit unseen reliability due to their ability to withstand unconventional mechanical deformations. This thesis approaches soft and stretchable electronic circuits down from a fundamental composite materials level all the way up to a robust device fabrication workflow. Covered topics are: conductive elastomer composites, stretchable electronic devices based on liquid metal and testing the reliability of compliant electronics.

Promoter is Prof. Dr. Wim Deferme.

Co-promoters are Prof. Dr. Kris Luyten and Prof. Dr. Ronald Thoelen.
