IMO-IMOMEC researcher Drs. Dries De Sloovere discovers new material to make Sodium-ion battery more stable and secure

Dr. Dries De Sloovere of IMO-IMOMEC's research group Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (IPC) headed by Prof. dr. An Hardy and Prof. Dr. Marlies Van Bael discovers a composite based on sodium, titanium, oxygen and carbon to make Na-ion batteries more stabile and more secure.
 
"This is an important step in the search for an alternative to the lithium-ion batteries that are now used in electric cars, smartphones and computers. Lithium has limited reserves and is relatively expensive. Whereas sodium is almost inexhaustible" says Dries De Sloovere.
