Eurovelo and Cycling Tourism Conference: call for abstracts
Jun 08, 2018

On the 27th, 28th and 29th of September 2018, Toerisme Limburg organises, together with ECF, the European Eurovelo and Cycling Tourism Conference. During this conference (cycling) tourism professionals from all over the world come together. This year’s theme? “Perception”! During the congress, plenary sessions will be organised around different topics. Therefore, a call for abstracts has been written out. Do you want to share your ideas during the conference? Submit your proposal before June 21!

The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) was founded in 1983 with one goal: to promote cycling as a sustainable and healthy means of transportation and recreation. The roots of the federation are found in Europe, but their challenges are not limited to the European borders.

The “European Cycle Route Neword’ (Eurovelo) is one of ECF’s projects. The goal of the project is the creation and promotion of a full European cycle route network (the Eurovelo network) that needs to cross and connect the entire European continent.

Eurovelo and Cycle Conference
ECF had selected the Belgian province Limburg to organise the fourth edition of the conference. It is organised every two years and this year it is held from the 26th until the 28th of September 2018.

The goal of this event is to bring together (cycling) tourism professionals from Europe and the rest of the world to talk about this expanding market. The sector offers work to approximately 600.000 Europeans and the sector generates an annual, economic impact of more than € 44 billion on the European economy.

Experience the unique
The focus of the congress is “perception”. Cycling tourism was and stays the core business of ECF. More than 20 years ago, node cycling was invented in Limburg and today we invest - with projects like ‘Cycling through the Water’ – in an extra experience layer on top of the existing cycling route network to stay the leader. Goal of the congress is finding out how innovation can strength cycling tourism.

During the congress plenary sessions are organised around different themes:

  • Experiences – Innovation
  • Cycling hardware – Cycle highways
  • Marketing and Promotion
  • Experiences – Developing successful cycle tourism products
  • Cycling hardware – Innovation
  • Sustainable Tourism – Combining bicycles with public transport

You can find more information on the website.
