Notice concerning the subscription fees
In the academic year 2015-2016 the Flemish Government adapted the subscription fees for Higher Education in Flanders, including the subscription fees for doctoral students. A number of doctoral students whose doctoral file was approved before 1 November 2015 pointed out that the amount of the new subscription fee, that is to be paid in the year of their defense, is higher than indicated in the doctoral regulations that apply to them.
However, the doctoral regulations applicable to doctoral students with a doctoral file that was approved before 1 November 2015 refer in the preambule for the subscription fee to art. 58 of the former “flexibiliseringsdecreet”. Since this “decreet” was adjusted by the government to the altering situation in reality and taken up in the “Codex Hoger Onderwijs”, UHasselt is required to follow the new legislation with every new alteration. This new regulation stipulates that the adjusted (and higher) subscription fees are also to be paid by doctoral students whose doctoral file was approved before 1 November 2015.
Hasselt University is therefore required to charge the updated subscription fees to all its doctoral students, regardless the moment of approval of their doctoral file.
