These PhD fellowships give young researchers a chance to prepare a doctoral thesis based upon fundamental research.
With this doctoral fellowship, young master graduates can prepare a PhD at a Flemish university. The emphasis here is on fundamental research. The fellowship has a term of two years, which is once renewable for another term of two years.
The fellowship is intended for young researchers with the Belgian nationality or with a nationality from one of the member states of the European Economic Area (EU-member states, Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein) or Switzerland.
The candidate possesses a degree from a university from within the Flemish Community or from an officially registered higher education institution. Candidates with a foreign diploma can also be eligible for a fellowship under special conditions.
In addition, candidates are only eligible within the first five years after obtaining their master degree (counted from the first day of the mandate, the 1st of October). In case the candidate possesses more than one master degree, different rules apply.
The deadline for submitting an application is on 1 February, at 17hrs, every year. Should the deadline fall on the weekend, the deadline is moved to first following Monday.
