The student psychologist helps you with personal or interpersonal problems.
During an individual consultation we will look for what you need at this moment and how we can help you. Some students find one session sufficient, others would like to continue for a longer period of time. We will look at this together with you during the first meeting.
For which themes you can contact us?
- Depressed mood
- Domestic issues
- Fear and anxiety
- Fear of failure, insecurities, low self-esteem
- Identity problems
- Internet or substance related addictions
- Stress, exhaustion
- Study-related problems with a psychological component
We help you deal with your feelings and those issues that are of value to you (so not only your student life, but also your personal, relational, family and/or health situation can be addressed). You and your needs are key in this process. This can be spread over several sessions, but it is also possible to have a single session with one of the student psychologists.
The duration of a conversation is between 45 and 60 minutes.
"I was hesitant to make an appointment with the student psychologist: 'Was it really necessary? Isn't that just a bit extreme? Am I perhaps not exaggerating after all?' I was in a vicious circle and I couldn't get out of it on my own. A friend who was also going convinced me. Then I realized that there is nothing wrong with asking for help. During the sessions we worked towards the fact that I can solve situations and problems myself in the future without the help of a psychologist. This gives me self-confidence and positive thoughts about the future because I am learning to become more independent. I have a completely different view of the world and how we as a person function in it. I look at everything in a much more positive way and take things much less personally. So, if you still have doubts: make an appointment and try. It's a difficult step, but definitely one in the right direction."
Unlike at most other psychologists, there is no waiting list at the student psychologist. In addition, both individual and group sessions are free to all UHasselt students.
