CORONA FACILITIES

The Corona crisis presents challenges for each of us, but it puts additional students to the test because of medical conditions, or because of the circumstances in which they have to prepare for exams / follow online education at home, or because they are in are abroad and therefore cannot move to UHasselt.

Because UHasselt wants to create the best possible study and exam conditions for everyone, you as a student can obtain the status of 'student in exceptional social or individual Corona circumstances'. After completing an application procedure, you can make use of educational and / or examination facilities.

Who can apply?

You must submit your application and attestation at faciliteiten@uhasselt.beAs soon as you have sent an e-mail and have indicated to which category you belong, you will receive the further information (declaration of honor, registration form, ...)!

WHO can apply for the statute?

Category 1. Students who belong to a risk group because of their age or medical reasons

- students older than 65 years
- students with diabetes
- students with (chronic) heart diseases, lung or kidney diseases
- students whose immune system is weakened
- pregnant students
- students quarantined because of a corona infection
- students who are rehabilitating from a corona infection or who are infected
- students with other health problems of a temporary nature with an increased risk (such as gland fever)

Category 2. Students who experience difficulties to participate in digital education / digital exams

Students who can demonstrate that due to environmental factors or social circumstances they do not have their own PC and / or a quiet place with a stable internet connection to follow the online educational activities and / or to take digital exams.

Category 3. Students who, due to applicable Corona entry restrictions, cannot attend exams that take place at the UHasselt exam locations

- Foreign students enrolled in UHasselt courses that returned to their home country and who cannot return to UHasselt exam locations in time to take exams.

- Flemish students enrolled in UHasselt courses that reside abroad (eg as part of an Erasmus exchange) and that cannot return (in time) to UHasselt exam locations to take exams.

If you are assigned an exam facility as a student, you must use it for all exams you take during the relevant (catch-up) exam period.
UHasselt exam locations includes all possible exam locations where UHasselt organizes exams.

PROCEDURE 

You must submit your application and attestation before 12.05.2020 at faciliteiten@uhasselt.be.

If, due to circumstances, you were unable to submit your request before 12.05.2020, please send a message to facilities@uhasselt.be as soon as possible.

You can only effectively claim the allocated exam facilities 7 calendar days after approval of the application by the study counseling service.

REGISTRATION and ATTESTATION

You send an email with your name, student number and study to facilities@uhasselt.be stating the category where you want to request a facility.

Category 1 students who apply for the status for medical reasons receive an application form to be completed by the study counseling service. You must substantiate your application with a medical certificate (at least from your GP) that confirms that you are a risk patient.

You declare in written agreement that all exams must be taken digitally from the moment of award. So you no longer have the option of taking one or a few exams on campus, unless technical problems arise that make it impossible for you to take digital exams.

Category 2 students who apply for the status will receive a declaration of honor from the study counseling service in which you briefly explain your situation or the problems you encounter with online education / digital exams.

You will then be called by the study counseling service to discuss your situation and to assess the specific needs.

Category 3 students who wish to apply for the status receive a declaration of honor stating that you are abroad and cannot return to Belgium during the examination period in May /June.

APPROVAL OF FACILITIES

The study coach informs you by e-mail of your allocated facilities and adds the examfacilities to your electronic student file.

Students who are allowed to study on campus will receive a certificate by e-mail with confirmation that they are allowed to study in UHasselt buildings.

Copies of the documents and certificates required for your registration will be kept by the relevant study coach. The data will be treated with due respect for the privacy of the student.

PRACTICAL ORGANIZATION

In case of studying at assigned places in the UHasselt buildings, you always present your admission certificate to the library or reception staff member present.

In the case of exam facilities, please contact the contact point within your faculty / study program by e-mail as soon as possible after the status has been granted to discuss the digital exams / evaluations at the UHasselt exam locations. 

 

To which institution-wide MINIMUM FACILITIES does this charter entitle?

For Category 1 students

“The student is entitled to digital exams / evaluations for all course units in his / her study path in the academic year 2019-2020, for which an exam / evaluation takes place between May 4, 2020 and August 11, 2020. These exams / evaluations are not scheduled on the exam days that are provided for make-up exams. 

This facility cannot be granted for internship course units and practical course units for which physical presence on the internship location / the Hasselt University campus is necessary in order to be able to evaluate the course unit concerned. If the student wishes to make use of this right to digital exams / evaluations, he loses the right to participate in the on-campus exam for the course units in his / her study track for all exams within the aforementioned period after the status has been granted. The exact date and / or time when the digital exam is taken may differ from when the on-campus exam takes place for the course unit. The digital evaluation form may also differ from the on-campus examination form.

For Category 2 students

“1. The student may study at allocated places in the buildings of UHasselt between May 11, 2020 and August 11, 2020.

The student is allowed to take these planned digital evaluations at the UHasselt exam locations for all planned digital exams / evaluations* that he has to take between 4 May 2020 and 11 August 2020, insofar as the government corona measures allow this. 

At the request of the student, but only insofar as this is organisationally possible, UHasselt makes the necessary digital material available to the student (laptop and / or webcam). 

The student contacts as soon as possible after granting the status the contact point within his faculty / study program by e-mail to discuss the digital exams / evaluations at the UHasselt exam locations. ”

* These are all exams / evaluations that require the use of the internet and / or digital tools during the exam time.

For Category 3 students

“The student is entitled to digital exams / evaluations for all course units in his / her study path in the academic year 2019-2020, for which an exam / evaluation takes place between May 4, 2020 and August 11, 2020. These exams / evaluations are not scheduled on the exam days that are provided for make-up exams. This facility cannot be granted for internship course units and practical course units for which physical presence on the internship location / the Hasselt University campus is necessary in order to be able to evaluate the course unit concerned. If the student wishes to exercise this right to digital exams / evaluations, he will lose for all exams within the aforementioned period after the status has been granted, the right to participate in the on campus exam for the course units in his / her study path. The exact date and / or time when the digital exam is taken may differ from when the on-campus exam takes place for the course unit. The digital evaluation form may also differ from the on-campus examination form. The student contacts as soon as possible after granting the status the contact point within his faculty / study program by e-mail to discuss the digital exams / evaluations. ”
