Myelin (green) presence in the white matter region of C57BL/6 mice cerebellum.
To determine the accumulation of black carbon in different brain cell types, myelin basic protein was stained in green with Alexa fluor 488 to visualize the nerve tract in sagittal brain sections of C57BL/6 mice exposed to soot. SYTO™ 61 Red was used to counterstain the nuclei (presented in red) resulting in the visualization of the granular layer or the innermost layer of the cerebellar cortex. This image was taken with the LSM 880 in combination with the argon laser (488nm) and HeNe 633 nm laser at 20x magnification.
