The Environmental Law Unit is part of the Centre for Government and Law (CORe) at Hasselt University. It consists of an active group of three professors and several PhD, project and voluntary scientific researchers, with research expertise in environmental law, planning law, energy law, heritage law and alternative dispute resolution. Past research includes international projects (e.g. on Integrated Spatial Planning for the IUCN), national projects (e.g. on ecosystem services and legal support in implementing the Nagoya Protocol) and private projects. International research collaborations are also highly valued, including joint PhD’s with the University of Maastricht (the Netherlands), the Moulay Ismail University of Meknes (Morocco) and the University of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdeliah in Fez (Morocco).
