FAQ

Q: Can master courses be acknowledged in fulfilment of the minimal requirements of the doctoral school?

A: Master courses taken during the course of the PhD can be acknowledged, on condition that there is a formal evaluation generating a personal score. This does not need to be the official exam; it can also be an alternative assignment, determined in consultation with the teacher. The test result can replace the proof of attendance that is typically to be delivered.

Q: Can online courses be acknowledged in fulfilment of the minimal requirements of the doctoral school?

A: Online courses can be acknowledged, on condition that there is a formal evaluation (i.e., exam or assignments). The test result or certificate received can replace the proof of attendance that is typically to be delivered. The proportion of online courses in the fulfilment of your program should be kept minimal, however.

Q: Can Ius Commune activities be acknowledged in fulfilment of the minimal requirements for PhD students at the Faculty of Law?

A: Yes, Ius Commune activities can be acknowledged, with Ius Commune certificates sufficing as proof.

Q: If I'm not obliged to fulfil the minimal requirements of the doctoral school, until when can I decide to do so voluntary?

A: Only the Faculty of Law has postulated a deadline: You can decide to take the full doctoral school program no later than 12 months before the end of your PhD.

Q: If I'm not obliged to fulfil the minimal requirements of the doctoral school but I choose to do so voluntary, can I be refused to defend my PhD if I don't fulfil the requirements after all?

A: No, if you choose to take the full program voluntary, you can opt out at any time.

Q: For the Faculty of Business Economics: Can attending conferences or symposia at which I give a presentation and which I use to fulfil the requirement of 'internationalisation' also be acknowledged under the focus point of 'advanced discipline-specific knowledge'?
