WRITING THE FWO DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP: FOCUS ON THE 10-PAGE APPLICATION FORM AND THE SCORING GRID

CONTENT

In this lecture, we will look closely at the requirements spelled out in the FWO application form and scoring grid. Our focus wil be first on the 10-page 'research outline'.

  • Part 1: Introduction to grant writing
  • Part 2: Analysis of the FWO application form and scoring grid
  • Part 3: Open floor for questions
  • Part 4: Final look at the proposal format – structure and space distribution in the 10 pages

The lecturer, Julia Staykova, has substantial experience as a consultant, with fundamental funding instruments at the European and national level, including ERC, FWO/ FNRS (Belgium), DFG and Humboldt (Germany), ANR (France), among others.

Learning outcomes

After having attended this workshop, participants will...

  • understand how to adapt their research project description to the FWO format;
  • understand how to structure their proposal.

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

  • academic research competences:
    • obtaining and managing funding
  • interpersonal competences:
    • written communication

For whom?

  • Master students and PhD students who are preparing an application for an FWO PhD fellowship for fundamental research (FR) or strategic basic research (SB)

When?

  • The session will take place on December 15, 2021 - 09:00-11:30
  • The session will be organized through Zoom
