What?

The G-STIC Climate Action Programme was launched to support developing countries in the fight against climate change. In 2022, the Government of Flanders provides 15,88 million euros for the second project call of the G-STIC Climate Action Programme. 

These subsidies are meant for both demonstration projects as well as dissemination & capacity building projects implemented by Flemish organisations in developing countries. The projects should directly and explicitly aim at climate adaptation and/or mitigation actions in line with the OECD Handbook. They must focus on areas where climate-related solutions can be expected to have maximal impact, preferably in one or more of the following seven sectors:

  • Agriculture
  • Biodiversity
  • Education & Research
  • Energy
  • Environmental Policy
  • Transport
  • Water & Sanitation
Project proposals should be registered by 26/08/2022, the deadline for full proposals is on 09/09/2022. Approved projects start in January 2023. 

Who?

Applicants need to have sufficient activity and presence in the Flemish region. 

There are three different types of projects, for which different types of applicants can apply. 
  • Dissemination project: study and consultancy firms, NGOs, non-profit organisations, knowledge institutions, universities and university colleges;
  • Capacity building project: study and consultancy firms, NGOs, non-profit organisations, knowledge institutions, universities and university colleges;
  • Demonstration project: companies, which are part of a consortium consisting of either of the following:
    • at least two companies, one of which must be a SME, where none of the companies bears more than 70% of the eligible costs;
    • the company and one or more research institutions, which shall bear at least 10% of the eligible costs and are entitled to publish their own research results

Potential partners in a developing country can participate in all types of projects. These partners can be from companies, knowledge institutions, dissemination and capacity building partners (NGO's, non-profit organisations, etc.), or governments (at all levels).
