BELSPO: Call for proposals - Polar Research

Research

Funding organisation:

Federaal Wetenschapsbeleid

What?

With this call for proposals, BELSPO would like to give an impulse to Belgian high-quality polar research that contributes and adds value to (an) existing European and/or international priority research initiative(s) in which the Belgian research community is active, thereby strengthening Belgium's position in the initiative(s) and reaching a significant scientific, political, economic and/or societal impact.

It is a non-thematic call for both Arctic and Antarctic research, covering a broad range of scientific disciplines, including oceanography, geosciences, physics, biology, space sciences and astronomy, as well as environmental sciences, socio-economic sciences, humanities, and data sciences.

Each proposal should ensure the correct management, publication and open access to the project data.

The maximum available budget for this call is €3 million. For single team projects, the maximum budget is €250k. For network projects, the maximum budget is €500k.

Projects selected will start end December 2022, or beginning January 2023. Projects can have a duration of 2 or 3 years.

Who?

The call is open to the entire Belgian scientific community: universities, university colleges, public scientific institutions and non-profit research centres.

Projects can be submitted by a network of researchers or by a single team from one research institution.

For projects submitted by a network (composed of at least two partners from different eligible Belgian scientific institutions), the participation of Federal Scientific Institutions and the cooperation between research partners of different communities or regions is encouraged. At equal scientific quality, priority will be given to these projects.

If it offers an added value to the project and the development of Belgian expertise, applicants may propose a cooperation with non-Belgian universities or public research institutes. The ensemble of international partners may apply for a maximum of 15% of the total proposed budget.
