Invitation of Senior Social Sciences and Humanities Researchers to France - Second Call for 2023 Visits

Research

What?

The Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) aims to foster excellence in humanities and social sciences research by promoting collaboration and by supporting scientific networks, working groups and experimental research teams in France.

Through its Associate Research Directors programme (DEA - Directeurs d’Études Associés), FMSH encourages senior scientific researchers to visit France for a period of between four and six weeks, to carry out research-related activities such as field studies, bibliographic research and archival work.

Funding consists of a monthly allowance of €3,400 which is awarded to support travel and living expenses. In addition, FMSH provides logistical support such as help with visa applications.

Who?

Eligible candidates are professors and equivalent senior researchers holding a PhD (or equivalent) working in institutions of higher education and research outside of France. Applicants must be aged under 65 at the time of their visit. Those applying under the impeded research category must be able to demonstrate that their research has been hindered by restrictive political situations or similar obstacles to academic freedom.

Application?

Calls for applications are usually launched three times each year.

Applications to the second call for visits taking place in 2023 must be submitted by 21 November 2022 (17:00 Paris time), on the platform: http://programmes.msh-paris.fr.

FMSH expects to announce funding decisions in March 2023. Research visits supported through this call must commence by 15 November 2023 and cannot take place during the academic summer vacation (15 July - 31 August).
