Research ethics

The Doctoral School of Health & Life Sciences of UHasselt organizes a session on research ethics, given by Prof. Dr. Wim Pinxten. All PhD students of the DS H&LS need to follow this course (or an equivalent) once during their PhD according to the minimal requirements defined by the Doctoral School. We recommend you to follow this course in your first year.

This training will introduce you to the cornerstones of research ethics and provide tips and tricks for handling ethical issues in the preparation of a research protocol and actual research practice.

Learning outcomes

After this training, participants will...

• know the major frameworks that guide the ethical assessment of research;
• have basic skills in addressing ethical issues in research protocols and practice.

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

• personal effectiveness:

  • responsibility
• intellectual competences:
  • critical judgment

• The course will take place on October 27, 2022, between 09:00-10:00.
