Public Speaking (edition 2)

This two-day workshop by Marc Van den Eede (WeGo’s) will provide you with general tools with respect to presenting and speaking for an audience. The focus is not limited to academic presentations; the workshop is relevant to all types of presentations. It comprises the following aspects:

• how to build a story that fits with the expectations of my audience (audience based, whatever the target group, purpose and/or message might be),
• how to improve my speaking skills and personal 'branding' leverage - how to make connection, how to speak in an inviting and guiding way, using amongst others the Q&A philosophy, vocal strengths, adoption time and word mirroring.

There will be two editions of this workshop in 2021.

Learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, you will have more knowledge about / awareness of:

• how to increase your self-confidence as a speaker,
• how to fragment and structure your presentation,
• how to prepare and deliver a presentation in a shorter period,
• how to synchronize visual support and (non-)verbal communication,
• how to deal with non-appropriate words and wordings,
• how to retranslate your story into a broader adoptable one,
• how to connect and staying connected with your audience.

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

• Participation on both days is required.

Preparation?

• This is a hands-on training, during which you will need to give several presentations (minimum 4 in 2 days, recorded on video). You will need to bring one powerpoint (or prezi) presentation; all other presentations are prepared during the workshop itself.

• 2nd edition: You can register here from August 18, 2022 on.
• Please register only if you can attend both sessions. As places are limited, registering does not automatically imply that you will be able to participate. You will be notified by email in due time.
• Please cancel your registration at least one week in advance in case you cannot make it (cf. cancellation & no-show policy).
