In November 2023 research group FRAME (PXL-MAD Research), in collaboration with Hasselt University and KRIEG are organizing the conference and exhibition project Agents of Concern.
Agents of Concern explores the impact of images on our empathic engagement with the world around us. It brings together artistic and scholarly ways of speaking with, about, and to images. The project investigates the ways in which images affect our emotional and cognitive capacities to understand the experiences and mental states of others, and to feel our way into both human and non-human entities.
We seek lecture and video contributions from researchers in the humanities and the sciences, as well as artists, filmmakers and other image experts. Contributions can take the form of a 25-minute lecture to be presented at the conference or a short video work to be included in the exhibition.
The short video contributions will be shown alongside video works by Harun Farocki, Chloé Galibert-Laîné, Jill Godmilow, Florian Göttke, Jelena Jureša, Rabih Mroué, Goda Palekaitė, and Frank Theys.
The full version of this open call can be found in this pdf. To be considered for this project, please submit an abstract of ca. 250 words to agentsofconcern@pxl.be by May 21, 2023, according to the guidelines provided in the full announcement.
The exhibition will run from November 16 through December 15, 2023 at PXL-MAD Gallery. Coinciding with the exhibition opening, there will be an evening lecture on November 16. The conference will take place on November 17–18, 2023.
