Research Day 2024

About the Research Day

We are delighted to invite you to the third edition of the Research Day @ Hasselt University on 23 May 2024. This year the event will focus on internationalisation.

We will share insights and highlight perspectives to facilitate and intensify international research collaboration via presentations on funding possibilities and best practices. You will be able to share your international and development cooperation projects in a postersession and participate in hands-on workshops.

Info session and workshops regarding internationalisation:

  • Info session: Marie Curie funding and funding possibilities for outgoing researchers
Speaker: Ellen Van Cutsem, Lieve Tulleneers

  • Workshop: ERC
    Speaker: dr. Annelies Stockmans
For researchers interested in applying for an ERC grant and seeking information about the profile of the applicant, the project proposal, the submission process, and the support offered by UHasselt.

  • Workshop: Grant writing: focus on policy and impact writing
    Speaker: dr. Dennis Vanden Auweele
Much international funding is increasingly becoming more top-down and impact-driven. How can I optimize my project proposal to fit neatly with the intricate landscape of European research policy? This hands-on, interactive session focuses on writing the policy elements in the Excellence-section (interdisciplinarity, AI, Gender, Data management, SSH-involvement) and the Impact-Section of a Horizon Europe proposal.

  • Workshop: Global partnership projects: Is it for me? Where do I begin?
    Speaker: prof. dr. Jean-Michel Rigo
During this workshop, you will get some clues about what global partnership projects (university development cooperation projects) could represent for you and where and how to begin.
Academics interested in collaboration with the Global South are welcome, even if they don’t have experience in the field yet.

  • Workshop: Soft skills - Intercultural communication
    Speaker: external consultant
At our university international encounters and collaboration in research become more and more important.
Intercultural communication is about more than knowing and taking into account the typical customs, habits and rituals of the people you meet. In this workshop we provide a framework, using concrete cases in a university context, to reflect on why communication and collaboration are sometimes difficult and how to go about it. Not only in an intercultural context, but in every context in which we deal with people who are different from us in various aspects.

  • Workshop: Exploring European Horizons: European University Alliances and EURECA-PRO
Speaker: dr. Elke van Hellemont, dr. Hanne Surkyn
In this session, we look at the advantages of joining a European University Alliance like EURECA-PRO. From funding opportunities to networking and additional infrastructure access, these alliances extend beyond academic advancement, nurturing lifelong relationships and cultural exchanges that may shape your future academic community. So, in this session we discuss how such alliances may serve as dynamic hubs for research collaboration and innovation.
