This newsletter provides an overview of all upcoming activities for PhD students organized by the doctoral schools and links to other potentially interesting events or information.

More details on, and registration links for, upcoming activities are available on the website of the doctoral schools. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at all times on doctoralschools@uhasselt.be.

1. Job shadowing

With job shadowing, we want to offer PhD candidates (≥ 3rd year in PhD track) and postdocs the opportunity to observe a professional on the work floor for 1 or 2 days, and thus get a better view on the tasks and responsibilities that come with the role he/she takes up within a company/organization. As a junior researcher, this offers you a unique opportunity to try out, without further obligations, whether there is a match with a particular job and corporate culture. Opportunities offered by different companies and organisations will be advertised. The shadowing will take place between October 09 and 20, 2023. There will be a half-day preparatory training on October 3 (09:00-12:00) and a structured debrief on October 24 (09:00-12:00).

2. Willingness to teach a course/workshop

Currently we are preparing the doctoral school course offer for 2024. We offer PhD students and postdocs the possibility to teach a course/workshop themselves to their peers. Are you willing or interested in teaching a course/workshop, send in a proposal containing the following elements: summarized content of the course/workshop, target group, learning outcomes, training methods, estimated duration/timing, maximum number of participants and brief explanation why you are capable of teaching this course. Please do so with your supervisor in CC, so we are assured that they are okay with you spending time on this. Of course, it is also allowed to work out a proposal in collaboration with your supervisor or someone else. If you would like to realize your teaching plans in 2024, the deadline for submission of the proposal is September 30, 2023
