1. Artificial Intelligence @ Hasselt University

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education, research and the workplace. As a civic university, Hasselt University recognizes AI as a driving force for innovation and societal progress, while also emphasizing the importance of critical, ethical and responsible AI use.

To support researchers, students and staff, the university has developed a framework for the use of generative AI within teaching, research and internal processes. Key principles include critical thinking, transparency, responsible use, integrity and thoughtful innovation. Researchers are encouraged to critically assess AI-generated output, use AI tools transparently and remain aware of both the opportunities and limitations of AI systems.

We strongly encourage all researchers to consult and follow the UHasselt AI Policy Framework and to regularly visit the UHasselt AI website for guidelines, updates and practical information on the responsible use of AI within the university context.

2. Doctoral school partner in the spotlight: Research Data Management (RDM)

The Doctoral Schools collaborate with various partners to support young researchers throughout their doctoral journey. One of these valued partners is the Research Data Management (RDM) team, which offers guidance and training on topics such as data management planning, research data policies, best practices and practical tools for managing research data responsibly and efficiently. Discover their training calendar and practical support.

Within 6 months after approval of your research project, you have to submit an initial data management plan. This is a plan in which you describe how you intend to handle the research data throughout the project (e.g. data collection, storage, security, documentation, etc.). Check with your supervisor whether such a DMP for your project already exists and if you can reuse it. If necessary the UHasselt RDM team can provide you one-on-one guidance on the development and implementation of this DMP and other data management practices.
