This newsletter provides an overview of all upcoming activities for PhD students organised by the doctoral schools and links to other potentially interesting events or information.

When you enrol for a doctoral school activity, make sure to take our cancellation & no-show policy into account. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at all times on doctoralschools@uhasselt.be.
1. Last chance to register!
Don’t miss your chance to boost your skills! Visit our new 'In the picture – Last chance to register' section on the website. There you will find a list of Doctoral Schools courses and initiatives for which the registration deadline has passed, but where a few places are still available. To sign up for one of these opportunities, simply send an email to doctoralschools@uhasselt.be. Be quick — places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
In addition, registrations are still open for the following three workshops:
- Speak your mind - Learn how to become more assertive
Learn how to communicate more confidently, set boundaries effectively and express your ideas with impact as well as how to strengthen your assertiveness skills.
- How to survive an interview for written press, radio, TV, socials & podcasts
Discover how to handle media interviews with confidence, stay on message and sharpen your interview skills across different channels.
- Storytelling with data
Learn how to communicate research findings through clear visuals and compelling stories that resonate with a broader audience.
2. Win free Nerdland tickets & shape your PhD experience!
From 22 to 25 May 2026, Lieven Scheire and Hetty Helsmoortel once again present the largest science festival in the Benelux. Four days packed with experiments, shows, talks and hands-on experiences at the Puyenbroeck domain in Wachtebeke, for diehard nerds and curious minds of all ages.

3. Doctoral school partner in the spotlight: Education department
The Doctoral Schools collaborate with various partners to offer young researchers a broad and valuable learning experience. One of these valued partners is the Education department, which provides sessions and (digital learning) modules on teaching skills, educational development, policy and quality assurance. Discover their extensive offer (in both Dutch and English). Registrations close one week before each session.
 Looking to broaden your horizon? Our generic competences training offer covers essential skills that bridge the gap between academia and the professional world. These "transferable skills" are generally open to all PhD students and postdocs.
