1. Course in the spotlight: 'Introduction to AI and Machine Learning for Biomedical Research'

Unlock the fundamentals of AI and machine learning for life sciences. From 18/11-05/12/2025, the doctoral schools and VAIA host an online course covering supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning and AI fairness & privacy - plus real biomedical use cases. Ideal for PhD students and researchers working with images, omics or EHR data. Free registration! Deadline: 14/11/25. Don’t miss it!

2. Mentoring trajectory 2026

You are kindly invited to sign up for another edition of the successful mentoring programme. Throughout this trajectory you will get the opportunity to exchange professional goals, ambitions,... with a civic mentor during one year. In a nutshell: it is a great way to gain insights into your future career path by means of a supportive mentor-mentee relationship, in which you will take the lead. Doctoral researchers can only apply for a civic track. All you need to do is to send a brief motivation statement, explaining your reasons for wanting a mentor, to careercenter@uhasselt.be until 23/11/25. Please carefully read all the info here before applying.

3. PhD Reflect & Connect: Welcome feedback - Towards a constructive feedforward culture

As part of our next edition of PhD Reflect & Connect on 12/03/26, the Doctoral Schools of UHasselt, in collaboration with our HR Department, are delighted to host a business theatre session on the theme 'Welcome feedback: towards a constructive feedforward culture'.This interactive and humor-filled performance is open to all researchers and UHasselt staff. A constructive feedback culture is essential for building an engaging, supportive and motivating work environment—but we all know it can be challenging in practice. Through a series of realistic and playful scenes, this business theatre invites you to explore how feedback can become more open, constructive and future-focused. You are welcome to participate using color cards, but verbal interaction is entirely optional—no one will be asked to come on stage. Simply watch, reflect and enjoy. Registration is possible until 11/02/26.

4. Make your voice heard – take part in the Academy Thermometer!

The Young Academy has recently launched the Academy Thermometer, an initiative designed to map
the mental well-being of academics across Flanders. The survey explores themes including workload, motivation, job satisfaction, social safety, support and psychological well-being. Its goal is to create a comprehensive and realistic picture of how researchers at different career stages are doing and to contribute to a more caring academic environment in the future. Participation is completely anonymous and results will only be analysed and reported at the Flemish level, not per university or faculty. The survey takes about 10–15 minutes to complete, and can be done in Dutch or English. By participating, you help ensure that the voices and experiences of early-career researchers are heard. Every response matters.
