Hasselt University has been named the worldwide winner of the Global Student Satisfaction Award 2025 in the category Admission Process. The award was officially presented during the EAIE conference in Sweden on 9 September.
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards, organised every two years by Studyportals, are entirely based on reviews from students. Independent platforms such as ESN, EDUopinions and (formerly) U-Multirank collect thousands of reviews each year. With a score of 4.9 out of 5 (based on more than 300 reviews) for the admission process, Hasselt University stood out for its transparent, welcoming, and student-centred approach.
Saskia Bas, Director of Educational Coordination and Student Affairs, underlines that the recognition is the result of teamwork:
Reviews play an important role in the decision-making process of prospective students: research shows that up to 80% of students consider reviews from fellow students when deciding where to study abroad.
Hogne Ulla, International Marketing, highlights the value of student reviews: “Actively collecting student reviews through platforms such as EDUopinions is crucial to come to the radar of international students. At the same time, these reviews provide valuable insights into how students experience their journey to and at Hasselt University.”
During the award show, Belgium was also highlighted as the 2nd best destination in terms of overall satisfaction.
Sadia Vancauwenbergh, Director of Research, Library and Internationalisation, accepted the prize in the name of her colleagues. In her speech, she highlighted:
This recognition highlights the importance Hasselt University places on putting students first. From the application stage, through their studies, and all the way into their alumni experience, UHasselt strives for an approach that is warm, welcoming and centred around the student.
