VLAIO - SMART EUREKA 10th Call for Projects

What?

The SMART 10th Call for Projects is now open. From now until 26 January 2027 (11:00 CET), organisations can submit their Project Outlines (PO) and take the first step towards building ambitious international R&D collaborations in Advanced Manufacturing.

The SMART Technology Roadmap identifies the research priorities that will drive the next generation of advanced manufacturing technologies. Projects submitted to the SMART 10th Call should address one or more of the following Research and Innovation Domains:

• Advanced Manufacturing Processes
• Intelligent & Adaptive Manufacturing Systems
• Design safe, sustainable and digital products
• Digital, Virtual & Efficient Companies
• Human Manufacturing
• Sustainable Manufacturing Towards a Circular Economy
• Customer-Based manufacturing
• New Business Models

They encourage companies, research organisations and universities from the SMART participating countries to start building their international consortia and submit their project ideas.

Who?

VLAIO allocates funding for Flemish organisations via Research Projects or Development Projects. Hasselt University can not receive funding without the participation of a Flemish company.
  

Application?

A preliminary schedule is available on this page.

• 26 January 2027 (11:00): Submission of Project Outlines
• 12 March 2027: Announcement of invitations to submit a Full Project Proposal (FPP)
• 15 April 2027: Submission of Full Project Proposal (FPP)

On the basis of an evaluation of the full project proposal, the SMART EUREKA Secretariat decides whether or not to award the project a SMART label.
With the SMART label, applicants can then apply for funding from VLAIO. VLAIO’s funding decision must be made within one year of the SMART label being awarded.

To apply for funding via VLAIO, you must follow the application procedure for Research Projects or Development Projects. 

Only OBI is allowed to submit the part for the "kennisinstelling", as they have a mandate to do so.

Contact OBI when preparing a project proposal. OBI
• Helps with process-related questions (e.g. questions about the application template, submission procedure etc.)
• Acts as an intermediary between the researchers and VLAIO
• Acts as an intermediary when internal (TTO, PER, FIN) or external consultation is necessary
• Helps with preparing the project budget
• Checks the final project budget
• Helps with administrative formalities relating to Hasselt University
• Has the mandate to submit the application for Hasselt University
