What?

The Flemish Europees Fonds voor Regionale Ontwikkeling (EFRO) 2021 - 2027 programme aims to strengthen Flanders' sustainable growth and competitiveness while accelerating the transition to a low-carbon, circular and energy-efficient economy. In this context, 3 new EFRO calls were opened.

1. Renewable energy - GTI Limburg
As part of this call for proposals, they are looking for projects that aim to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy in Flanders. The emphasis here is primarily on innovative pilot and demonstration projects, with a focus on investment projects. Projects must be additional to existing support frameworks.
An amount of EUR 2 million is available. The EFRO support per project will not exceed 60% of the total cost. Potential projects are expected to place the greatest possible emphasis on economic valorisation. State aid applies.

2. Innovative, state-of-the-art equipment - GTI Limburg
This call aims to enhance research and innovation capacity by procuring innovative, state-of-the-art research or demonstration equipment. In addition, there is also scope for the development of supporting digital applications. This equipment must enable innovative applications to be rolled out to Flemish businesses.
These are, therefore, facilities that can be used for pilot or co-creation activities.
These actions should focus on the priority areas of Flemish Smart Specialisation and the foreseen transitions around industry, climate and circular economy. An amount of EUR 2.245.871,44 is available. The EFRO support shall not exceed 60% of the total eligible costs. State aid applies.

3. Promoting digitalisation across the board - GTI Limburg
As part of this call for proposals, they are seeking projects that can help to boost digitalisation amongst members of the public, businesses and research organisations.
Projects should be additional to existing support frameworks. Projects should focus on the priority areas of Flemish Smart Specialisation and the foreseen transitions around industry, climate and circular economy.
An amount of EUR 1 million is available. The EFRO support shall not exceed 60% of the total eligible costs. Potential projects are expected to place the greatest possible emphasis on economic valorisation. State aid applies.

Project duration for all calls: maximum 3 years for investment projects and 2 years for working projects. Investment projects are projects consisting of more than 50% investment costs.

Important for all calls:
In order to be entitled to these funds, approval of your project idea by the Taskforce of SALKturbo is a prerequisite, as the Taskforce SALKturbo acts as the steering committee of the GTI Limburg. If you did not submit a SALKturbo project yet, you will be able to submit a new SALKturbo project via this link. It is also possible to resubmit projects that previously received an "orange" rating. SALKturbo approval ("green" rating) is not an advance on European, Flemish or provincial (co-)funding, but is necessary for certain European programs such as EFRO.
