KOTK - prevention projects 2027

Research

Funding organisation:

Kom op tegen Kanker vzw

What?

Every year, Kom op tegen Kanker does a thematic call for prevention projects. In 2027, the objectives and themes of the call are:
  • Primary prevention: KotK aims to contribute to an environment in which children and young people, regardless of their background or socio-economic situation, can grow up healthily and face a lower risk of cancer later in life. That is why we support projects that address preventable risk factors and the underlying determinants of cancer that help shape a healthy living environment: non-medicinal nicotine products, alcohol, diet, physical activity and sleep (in relation to obesity), particulate matter, endocrine disruptors and asbestos.
  • Secondary prevention: KotK supports projects that contribute to the early detection of cancer or genetic mutations that increase cancer risk, with a particular focus on groups that are currently systematically underserved. Projects must contribute to transparent and balanced communication about the benefits and drawbacks of screening, so that people can make an informed choice about whether or not to take part (informed decision-making).
Technical/clinical validation of a screening method and research into the development of a new screening method are not eligible in this call.

New in this call:
  • Strategic priority for children and young people within primary prevention;
  • Extra attention to health equity, with a particular focus on groups that are currently systematically underserved;
  • Greater emphasis on tackling environmental, policy or systemic factors that contribute to a healthy living environment;
  • Option to apply for funding for international collaboration, subject to certain conditions (requested budget may not exceed 25% of the total project budget).
KOTK provides a total budget of €2.500.000 for this call. There is no maximum budget per project application, but the requested budget will be considered in function of the proposed impact. Duration of the project is maximum 4 years.

Who?

The applicant must form a consortium comprising at least one practice-based organisation, at least one research institution and (representatives of) the target group. These partners must play a structural and active role from the outset through to the implementation and evaluation of the project.

The project manager is affiliated with a Flemish non-profit organisation; this may be a research institution, a centre of expertise or a civil society organisation. The term ‘research institution’ refers to non-profit R&D organisations, including universities, hospitals, and research and healthcare institutions.

Each project submitted has only one project manager, who is responsible for coordinating the entire project. It is possible to hold the roles of project manager and project team member on different projects simultaneously.

KOTK underlines the complementary nature of its funding and thereby assumes a role for prevention projects where no or insufficient funding is made available by government, industry and/or other funders.
