What?

This program offers funding for short term research visits of American researchers to a university in Belgium. The period of the visit can vary from 2 to 6 weeks. Possible activities for which an American scholar can be invited in Belgium include:
  • Presenting lectures;
  • Participating or leading seminars or workshops;
  • Taking part in specialized academic programs and conferences;
  • Developing and/or assessing academic curricula or educational materials;
  • Conducting needs assessments, surveys or institutional or programmatic research;
  • Consulting with administrators and instructors of post-secondary institutions on faculty development;
  • Conducting teacher training programs at the university level.
Please note that these grants cannot be used for research as such. 

Who?

This year, researchers in the following field are eligible: anthropology/archeology, business administration, communications and journalism, economics, education, environmental science, information technology, law, library science, peace and conflict resolution, political science, public administration, public/global health, sociology, social work, U.S. studies (e.g., art, art history, dance, history, literature, music, popular culture, theatre, women’s studies, general U.S. Studies) and urban planning.

Application?

If you would like to request an academic or professional specialist for two to six weeks, please contact Fulbright by email (marijke@fulbright.com) in order to receive the materials needed. Requests will be honored depending on the availability of funding and on the availability of an appropriate U.S. specialist.

You can either be matched with a specialist already on the Specialist roster/database, or you can suggest a U.S. scholar or professional you already have contact with yourself. Application are accepted year-round, but should be submitted at least 3-4 months before the planned arrival of the specialist in Belgium (with the exception of applications in the field of refugee/migration issues). If you suggest a specialist yourself, the application may take longer than 4 months.
