Tuition Fees

As an international student, you'll have to pay a tuition fee to participate in educational activities and / or exams. Find out what the tuition fee is if you choose a master programme, preparation or bridging programme. 

Tuition fees

As an international student, you are required to pay a tuition fee to participate in educational activities and/or examinations. Tuition fees are calculated based on the number of selected ECTS credits. Child support and possible student financing are also linked to the number of selected ECTS credits. On an annual basis, the amount of the tuition fees and the payment terms are determined by the Board of Governors, within the limits set forth by the Flexibilisation Decree.

Academic year 2025 - 2026

1. An English UHasselt master programme

Master of ManagementMaster of Interior Architecture and Master of Transportation Sciences are English master programmes organised by Hasselt University.

 

1.1 As a Belgian student

When you register with a degree and / or credit contract for a:

  • master
  • preparatory programme
  • bridging programme

You'll have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part. The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and / or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee. Check the tuition fee that applies on your situation:

Non-grant rate student

  • As a non-grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of € 299. 
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 14,30.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 1 157 euros.

 

Almost-grant rate student

  • As an almost-grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of € 299.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 5,20

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of € 611.

 

Grant rate student

  • As a grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of € 136,50.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 0.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of € 136,50.

1.2 As a non-Belgian student

As a non-Belgian student, you'll pay a fixed part of € 299. The variable part per ECTS credit is € 14,30. 

When you follow a UHasselt study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 1 157 euros. 

Exception

Students with a Master Mind Scholarship pay € 136,50

 

Non-EEA students Master of Energy Engineering Technology

Non-EEA students pursuing the Master of Energy Engineering Technology programme taught in English pay an increased tuition fee.*

  • As a non-EEA student, you will pay a fixed part of 299 euros
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 114,30 euros

When you follow study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you will have to pay a total fee of 7157,00 euros.  

Exception: non-EEA students paying the same tuition fees as EEA students (pdf, 55 KB)

 

2. An English tUL master programme

Master of Statistics and Data Science and Master of Biomedical Sciences are English master programmes organised by the transnational University Limburg.

2.1 As a Belgian student

When you register with a degree and / or credit contract for a:

  • master

You'll have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part. The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and / or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee. Check the tuition fee that applies on your situation:

  • As a non-grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of € 299.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 14,30.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 1 157 euros.

  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 5,20.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of € 611.

2.2 As a non-Belgian student

You'll have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part. The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and / or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee.

  • You'll pay a fixed part of € 299.  
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 38,37

When you follow a tUL study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of €2 601. 

Exception for foreign tUL students

Foreign tUL students who receive a scholarship from the Flemish Community of Belgium. Or foreign students who are subject to the Belgian tax systems or the Belgian system of child support pay the tuition fee applicable to Belgian students. 

Exception for students with a VLIR-UOS-scholarship

Students with a VLIR-UOS scholarship following the Master of Statistics and Data Science programme pay: 

  • A fixed part of € 299
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 14,30

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of € 1 157.

Exception for students from developing countries

Master of Statistics and Data Science students from a developing country mentioned on the VLIR-UOS scholarship country list pay: 

  • A fixed part of € 299
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is € 14,30

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of € 1 157. 

 

Master Mind scholarship

Students with a Master Mind Scholarship pay € 136,50

 

PhD programme

The tuition fee for the preparation of a PhD is € 578,50 paid in the first year. Re-registration during your PhD is free of charge. The tuition fee for the academic year in which the PhD will be obtained is again approximately € 578,50 (index of government will apply). 

The tuition fee must be paid during your final registration at UHasselt. 

Other categories

In specific situations, you'll pay another tuition fee.

Exam contract

If you register with an exam contract, you'll pay a fixed component of € 136,50 and a variable component of € 5,20 per selected ECTS credit.

A combination of an exam contract and a credit or diploma contract is seen as one individual registration.

Insufficient study ECTS credit

Students whose study credit is insufficient pay € 14,30 per credit they lack.

This does not apply to scholarship-rate students and almost scholarship-rate students.

Academic year 2026 - 2027

1. An English UHasselt master programme

The following English master programmes are organised by Hasselt University:

  • Master of Management
  • Master of Interior Architecture
  • Master of Transportation Sciences
  • Master of Energy Engineering Technology

Tuition fees depend on your residency status (Belgian, EEA, non-EEA) and your grant status.

When you register with a degree and / or credit contract for a:

You will have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part. The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and/or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee.

Almost-grant rate student

  • As an almost-grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 5,30 euros. 


When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 623,40 euros.

Grant rate student

  • As a grant rate student, you'll pay a fixed part of 139,40 euros.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 0 euros.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 139,40 euros.

1.2 As an EEA student

  • As an EEA student, you'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 14,60 euros.

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 1 181,40 euros.

Exception

Students with a Master Mind Scholarship pay 139,40 euros. 

 

1.3 As a non-EEA student 

Starting from the academic year 2026–2027, UHasselt applies three tuition-fee categories for non-EEA students enrolled in the English-taught master programmes organised by Hasselt University. Each programme is assigned to one of the categories below. 

You'll have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part.The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and/or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee.

Students enrolling in the following programmes are assigned category 1:

  • Master of Management                                    
  • Master of Interior Architecture                           
  • Master of Transportation Sciences                    

Students enrolling in the following programmes are assigned category 3:

  • Master of Energy Engineering Technology       

Category 1

  • As a non-EEA student of category 1, you'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 59,9 euros. 

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 3 900 euros.

Category 2

  • As a non-EEA student of category 2, you'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros. 
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 105,40 euros. 

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 6 630 euros.

Category 3

  • As a non-EEA student of category 3, you'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros.
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 153,10 euros. 

When you follow a study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 9 493 euros.

Students who are already enrolled in an English-taught master programme in the current academic year and who re-enrol in the same programme or progress to the next phase of that programme next academic year, will not be charged the increased tuition fee.

2. An English tUL master programme

2.2 As a non-Belgian student

You'll have to pay an annual tuition fee which has a fixed part and a variable part.The variable part of the tuition fee is based on the selected ECTS credits per year. All registrations for one or more programmes and/or components under a diploma and/or credit contract are treated as one registration. All obtained ECTS credits are added up for the calculation of your tuition fee.

  • You'll pay a fixed part of 305,40 euros.  
  • The variable part per ECTS credit is 39,90 euros. 

When you follow a tUL study programme of 60 ECTS credits, you'll have to pay a total fee of 2699,40 euros.

PhD programme

The tuition fee for the preparation of a PhD is 591 euros paid in the first year. Re-registration during your PhD is free of charge. The tuition fee for the academic year in which the PhD will be obtained is again approximately 591 euros (index of government will apply). 

The tuition fee must be paid during your final registration at UHasselt.
