Assistant professor (tenure track) Architectural culture and design TRACE (100%)

Your function

Teaching assignment

You will be involved in teaching architecture and interior architecture courses, focusing on two areas: cultural studies in the first and second years of the bachelor's programme and the design studio in the bachelor's programme in interior architecture. You will contribute to the ambition to strengthen the synergy between different course components in the bachelor's programme. As a member of the faculty's personnel framework of professors, you will also supervise master's theses that match your expertise.

As part of a team, you will also help strengthen the relationship between research and (studio) education, particularly within the interior architecture programme.

More generally, you will contribute to the development and implementation of the educational concept and curriculum, to the realization of the programme profile, and to the realization of the specific objectives of the programmes, the faculty, and the university.

Research assignment

Your research will focus on aspects of repurposing and heritage, the broad theme of the TRACE research line, of which you will also be a part. Your own research focus will build on and broaden the existing expertise within the line. Teamwork is essential. You have a vision for scientific output, for building an (international) network, and for acquiring second, third, and/or fourth funding streams.

Internal and external community service

In addition to these academic tasks, you are willing to take on organizational, coordinating, and administrative tasks. You will also contribute to strengthening the faculty's social impact through public lectures, exhibitions, and other cultural and social contributions.

Your team

This vacancy is part of the further expansion of academic research at the Faculty of Architecture and Art and the ArcK research group at Hasselt University. You will become a member of the Architecture and Art department and the ArcK research group. You will join the TRACE research line, in collaboration with other research lines.

Trace is a research line focusing on the re-use of heritage, with an emphasis on cultural and design aspects. The profile of the output is strongly focused on theory formation. There is also a strong link with education—both with theoretical course components and with the design studio—of the international Master of Interior Architecture - Adaptive Reuse.
