Your function
As a Senior Expert Laboratory Technician – Lab Coordinator, you will fulfil a strategic support role within the faculty's lab ecosystem and have a leading, coordinating role within the BTT (Biomed Tech Team). You will take on important educational tasks within the faculty.
You will work closely with laboratory technicians, academic staff, education coordinators, central services, technicians and safety experts. You will play a pivotal role in developing faculty-wide procedures, ensuring safety and guaranteeing an efficient infrastructure for students and researchers.
Educational Coordination and Support
- You coordinate the organization of practical courses and skills training within bachelor’s and master’s programmes and are responsible for their practical preparation, implementation, and quality assurance.
- You provide introductory and safety briefings to students and new staff members.
- You supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses and support educational projects, skills assessments, introductory practical courses for secondary school students, etc.
- You identify development needs and actively contribute to the renewal and improvement of educational practices and materials.
Coordination of Laboratory Operations (Role of Lab Coordinator) & Support of Biomedical Research
- You are responsible for the daily and structural coordination of laboratories within the faculty.
- You take a leading role in working groups related to education, research, and services.
- You monitor laboratory capacity and coordinate the planning of spaces, tasks, and material flows.
- You coordinate the maintenance, inspection, and quality control of laboratory equipment.
- You act as the central point of contact for biosafety, chemical safety, safe laboratory work processes, and risk management.
- You develop, implement, and monitor SOPs, emergency procedures, and best practices.
- You organize and document (re)training sessions, safety training, and compliance audits.
- You develop institution-wide and complex procedures related to materials management, data quality, traceability, and equipment management.
Laboratory Expertise
- You provide technical and scientific support within ongoing biomedical research projects.

Within this stimulating environment, we are looking for a highly motivated Senior Expert Technician / Lab coordinator who provides support to teaching and research in the faculty.
Your talents

You have a bachelor's degree in clinical chemistry, biochemistry, laboratory techniques, biotechnology (or equivalent).

You have broad expertise in molecular or cell biological techniques, or in animal experimental research, applied within focus areas such as cardiovascular, neuroscientific, or immunological research.

You have experience coordinating educational and research activities.

You analyse complex situations thoroughly and quickly, and develop well-founded solutions that optimise laboratory operations and safety.

You work in a connecting and coaching manner with colleagues across different job classes and disciplines, and naturally take a leading role in working groups.

You coordinate laboratory activities efficiently, maintain oversight in a dynamic environment, and steer processes and priorities in a structured way.

You communicate clearly, professionally, and instructively with researchers, students, and support services, both orally and in writing, and have sufficient proficiency in both Dutch and English.

You independently take responsibility for a safe, compliant, and well-functioning laboratory environment, and act proactively when needs or risks arise. You have extensive knowledge of laboratory safety.
Our offer for you
You will be appointed as Administrative and Technical Staff and paid by class 6 (degree 6).
We offer you a full-time, permanent contract.
