Maastricht University

General Information

Two departments of Maastricht University are involved in the IMR blue zone project:

  • Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI), department of Social Medicine
  • School of Health Professions Education and Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism (NUTRIM), Department Nutrition and Movement Sciences

The Blue Zone partners at Maastricht University bring expertise in using wearables to measure physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep. In their research, they explore the determinants of these behaviors—particularly the role of socioeconomic and environmental factors—and assess how they influence health outcomes and learning. In addition, they are involved in developing and implementing innovative education formats that foster transformative learning.
