FWO Research Projects Red Nose Day 2022

Research

Funding organisation:

Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen

What?

In the context of Red Noses Day, the FWO provides up to € 896,226 (excluding overhead) to support two-year research projects on “resilience for young people on a mental, social and physical level with focus on projects within a school environment”. Project proposals are preferably aimed at generating new knowledge that can contribute to the development of tools to enable schools, teachers or teacher training institutes to improve the psychological well-being of young people.

The Red Noses Fund was set up at the King Baudouin Foundation to manage the proceeds of the Red Noses Day benefit. Red Nose Day is a collaboration between VTM, Q-Music and Belfius, inspired by Red Nose Day, a concept created in the UK by Comic Relief Ltd and which has been active in fundraising for charitable purposes for 30 years.

With this appeal, the Red Nose Fund, together with the FWO, wants to support fundamental scientific research on the mental health and well-being of young people, both in terms of assistance and prevention in a school context.

Features:
The FWO will fund projects with a duration of 2 years. Eligible costs are staff and consumables (€45,000 to €130,000 per year, project partners may request a budget in the amount of € 0 or € 20.000 per year) and equipment (up to €150,000 per project)

The theme of this call is resilience of young people on a mental, social and physical level with focus on projects within a school environment.

Please note that the humanitarian research projects, such as these in the scope of Red Nose Day, differ in some substantial aspects from the fundamental research projects of FWO; e.g.:

  • These projects will NOT distinguish between a junior or a senior project type;
  • These projects will NOT be taken into account for calculating the maximum of 2 projects for which one can be (co)-supervisor at a given time.
  • A specific panel of scientific experts composed by FWO will evaluate your application; it is not necessary to select a panel yourself from the regular FWO expert panels.
