What?
'Scientific joint mobility projects with Brazil' is a scientific exchange program of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) in cooperation with the São Paulo Science Foundation (FAPESP). This program supports two-year joint research projects, covering travel expenses, accommodation, and living expenses, with a special focus on junior researchers.
- FWO offers researchers from Flanders a daily living allowance of €66,00 and pays the travel expenses towards/from Brazil (to be booked through Omnia Travel)
- FAPESP pays researchers from Brazil a daily allowance according to the rules outlined in Ordinance PR No. 35/2020 (www.fapesp.br/14018).
Start of project: January 1, 2027.
As of 2025, the online application form features a dedicated '
Research Security' tab. Applicants are required, based on the topic of their research proposal, involved countries, and foreign partners, to complete a set of questions regarding unwanted knowledge transfer, misuse of research results, and/or interference. If the outcome of this questionnaire indicates that your project proposal requires research security approval, please contact
RRI@uhasselt.be.
Who?
The PI holds a Ph.D. and has, throughout the project, an appointment of at least 50% at UHasselt.
New! In the framework of this call with FAPESP, you can only act once as a supervisor-spokesperson or co-supervisor at the Flemish (FWO) side.
Exchanges with special attention to junior researchers: In each project on the Flemish side, at least one junior researcher should participate in an exchange to Brazil. This junior researcher is a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher with no more than 12 years of postdoctoral experience (first PhD degree can be obtained maximally 12 years before the submission deadline (23/02/2026) of the project, to be counted from the date of obtaining the doctoral degree).
Application?
Proposals must be submitted simultaneously to FWO and FAPESP, in accordance with the modalities of each agency. The FWO application template can be found on the
FWO website.
NEW: For FWO, you submit your application through the FWO E-portal by using the specific digital application form under ‘International collaboration / Mobility projects’. Please note that each online FWO submission is automatically confirmed by a confirmation email. If you did not receive such an email, please verify whether you properly submitted your application. Please be aware that it is essential to update your FWO E-portal profile each time you submit a new FWO application.
NEW: The involved
host institution on the Flemish side will have to give, via their FWO institution tool,
formal institutional consent for the application. For applications within the framework of joint mobility projects, it will no longer be a notification; instead, a specific action will be required by the involved host institution.
Deadline: 23rd of February 2026, 17:00
