European Urban Initiative (EUI) - 2nd call Innovative Actions

Research

What?

The European Urban Initiative, funded by the European Union, is an essential tool to support cities of all sizes, to build capacity and knowledge, to support innovation and develop transferable and scalable innovative solutions to urban challenges of EU relevance.

The second Call for Proposals of EUI - Innovative Actions is targeting innovative projects focusing on the three topics:

Topic 1: Greening cities
Projects will be funded to experiment and deliver tangible innovative solutions on green infrastructure across European cities, for better addressing the biodiversity, pollution, resource and climate challenges, including synergy development with other key policy areas.

Topic 2: Sustainable tourism
Projects will be funded to trigger long-term green and digital transformation, resilience and sustainability in the tourism sector. This could be achieved by diversifying tourism products, seeking a positive impact on local communities and the environment, fostering social inclusion and social innovation, and improving connections with smaller areas and towns.

Topic 3: Harnessing talent in shrinking cities

Placed-based and integrated pilot projects to test new solutions to retain and attract talents. This could be achieved by involving local communities and addressing the economic, social and environmental dimensions caused by the demographic transition.

Each project can receive up to a maximum of €5 million ERDF co-financing and project implementation should take place within a maximum period of 3.5 years.

Who?

Applications are invited from urban authorities (cities, towns, or suburbs, with a total population of at least 50,000 inhabitants) in EU Member States. Participation and co-creation with partners, relevant stakeholders, and target groups, are key for the development and implementation of genuinely innovative and experimental projects. Partnerships should be as diverse as possible, ideally reflecting the quadruple helix (public authorities, industry, academia and civil society).

The submission of the Application Form is 100% paperless through the use of EUI’s Electronic Exchange Platform (EEP).
